About the event

Join us for a superb high-level walk of a bit under 9 miles in the Dark Peak. We’ll meet at Hope Station to take the 10.40 train for a 7-minute ride to Edale. The walk leaves Edale and climbs via The Nab and Ringing Roger and follows the southern edge of Kinder Scout until it descends to the west to Hope Cross. From here we take a long gentle walk

up to the summit of Win Hill, which must have the finest view in the region, returning to Hope Station via Aston. If time permits we’ll decamp to the Garden Centre café for refreshment before starting the journey home.

The climb from Edale up the Nab is steep but on a really good path. The Kinder Scout path includes a very short steep section where the head of Jaggers Clough is crossed.

Hikers are very common around Edale and Win Hill, but there should be some quieter stretches between.

Assuming no traffic delays, journey time to Hope Station by car is about 2 hours from both Kettering and Northampton. I’ve walked this route several times setting off from home in Northampton about 8.00am and getting back around 6:30pm but accommodation could be sought in Hope, Castleton, Hathersage, Chesterfield or Sheffield.

Other route options are available in case of bad weather.

You’ll need walking boots, packed lunch, drinks, suitable clothing and a train ticket or bank card to purchase one. Full price rail ticket is currently £4.20. Apart from a car park, a ticket machine and a couple of seats in a rain shelter, there are no facilities at Hope Station. Toilets are available at Edale and at Hope Valley Garden Centre as well as the car park in the village of Hope.
