About the event
Bradgate Park is a very special place to visit at any time of the year but the autumn months give us the opportunity to witness the annual deer rut, when the stags fight each other for the women! Ancestral home of Lady Jane Grey – the 10 Day Queen – Bradgate lies just north of Leicester but a world away from this busy city.
The Park offers a wild and rugged landscape, over 830 acres, with dramatic rocky outcrops and gnarled old oak trees, many of which are well over 500 years old.
We have been able to arrange a private ranger-led deer walk which may take us into areas of the park which are not normally open to the public to learn not only about the rut but how the herd is managed, a fascinating insight into the world of these beautiful animals.
Sensible walking shoes and waterproofs advisable.
The tour lasts approximately 2 hours.
There are two cafés, one in the carpark and another in the park itself, plus a visitor centre and shop.
Weather permitting, there will be plenty of time after lunch to explore the park.
This activity is strictly limited, due to the nature of walk, but Bradgate is open to the public 7 days a week with free access.
